9ice, M.I lead nominations for HHWA

As the clock ticks towards this year‘s Hip Hop World Awards scheduled to hold on May 16, at the International Conference Centre Abuja, the hip hop artist and Gonga Aso crooner, 9ice is no doubt, getting ready to outshine his contemporaries and add six prizes to his basket of awards.Already, 9nice is leading M.I, D Banj and other prominent hip hop singers with six nominations. The new kid on the block, M.I is closing the gap with five nominations leaving the Koko Master, D Banj catching up with four categories.

This year‘s HHWA is hosted by the R and B singer, Banky W along with the cinematographer and on air radio personality, Kemi Adetiba. As part of activities to mark the event, Banky in collaboration with M.I, and Kel, will perform this the theme song for the awards titled ”How much do you want it? (A Prize to die for)‘‘ produced by eLDee the Don.

In this year‘s event, YQ, Kel, MP, D‘Jinee or Omawumi may be the winner of the Next Rated category and become a proud owner of a brand new KIA Optima saloon car. The last year winner of this category, Wande Coal took home a Hyundai Sonata.

HHWA, described as the most important event on the Nigerian entertainment calendar and Nigeria‘s foremost awards for urban and contemporary music, has 18 voting categories.

The competitive categories include Album of the Year, Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R and B/Pop Album of the Year, Best Reggae/Dancehall Album, Best Rap Single, Best Collabo, Best Street Hop, Best Music Video, Next Rated and African Artiste of the Year.

Besides the award categories, there is a special recognition segment for two recipients called the Hip Hop World Hall of Fame. While winners from eleven categories will be decided by votes from the public, other categories will be decided by the awards jury.
