Victoria Beckham seems to have a penchant for copying fashion from television.

Just days ago she wore an ensemble apparently based on children's show Thunderbirds, and now her wardrobe seems inspired by Mad Men.

Stepping out of her hotel in New York today, the 35-year-old was pristinely turned out in a tight grey sweater and A-line skirt that could have come straight from the 1960s-set show.

The acclaimed BBC4 programme follows the exploits of advertising men on New York's Madison Avenue in the Sixties, but is also known for the stylish fashions worn by its female stars.

Victoria teamed the charcoal outfit with chic red heels and a red and white handbag and a pair of sunglasses was firmly planted on her head despite the rain.

Avoiding the drizzle with the help of two umbrellas, expertly carried by an assistant , she made her way into a waiting car.

Echoes: The outfit was reminiscent of 1960s-set television series Mad Man

The night before, the former Spice Girl was at her glamorous best for one of the biggest nights on the New York fashion calendar.

The star-studded Costume Institute Gala ushered in the Model As Muse: Embodying Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Victoria showed off her skinny figure at the event in an asymmetrical polka dot dress with a sweeping train by Marc Jacobs, high heels by Louis Vuitton and a Chopard ruby ring.

Meanwhile, her husband David Beckham made the trip from Italy to watch his former team Manchester United defeat Arsenal 3-1in London last night.

The star howled with glee from the stands as Ronaldo capped a fine performance for the team.

He was also spotted giving tongue-in-cheek commiserations to Mathieu Flamini, who once played for Arsenal.

Of course, the pair now both play for AC Milan.
