Timaya don bow-o, Timaya don kolombo-o”, That was the chorus among music lovers and people in Anambra and Imo State last weekend as Timaya, the Eberipapa One of Bayelsa, mounted the stage as this year’s Star Trek, the national music concert tour sponsored by Star lager berthed at these two eastern Nigerian cities.

Although it was a star loaded concert with the likes of 2Shot,Ruggedman,Faze,Trybe’s men and Tony One Week on the train, Timaya’s outstanding stage performance added to his very popular song tracks stood him out of the entertaining bunch. Reeling out one popular song after another and wriggling his waist to the rhythm like an Ijaw man which he is as well as occasional jumping into the crowd made Timaya a popular choice of the night.

The concert was indeed a fulfillment of the popular Star slogan of sharing the brighter life as could be seen by the expression on the faces of the over 3,000 fans who attended the shows at each venue respectively.

The Trek which began in Ijebu Ode and moved to Ogbomosho penultimate weekend was on its third and fourth leg in Nnewi and Orlu last weekend. As usual, the concert at each venue started with performances from what could be regarded as local stars. Although these guys and girls may not have recorded music tracks in the market, the songs performed by them would only require a little exposure to make considerable impact on the airwaves.

The first real act at both venues were The Trybesmen, a group of three Gentlemen, fresh from South Africa after a successful video shoot of their new album.

Then came The Pulse, winners of the 2009 edition of Star Quest, the music talent hunt reality television show also sponsored by Star lager whose popularity is growing by the day.

As in their first two outings, they did not only give a good account of themselves but showed why they were overwhelmingly chosen by Nigerians. They distributed their posters and by the time they performed their hit track

“So Tay”, did the rap DJ stuff and ended up with “Redemption Song”, there was a thundering applause from the dancing audience.

Ruggedman and 2Shots also gave impressive performances while the gyration Master Tony One Week was as usual a toast of the Eastern Nigerian music fans as he took the audience on an exciting journey into the wee hours of the morning.

The Trek moves to Calabar in Cross River State and Nsukka in Anambra State this weekend with performances expected from P-Square, Ruggedman,2Shots, Father Kane and of course, The Pulse. Also on hand to thrill the fans would be MC Basket Mouth.

...as train moves to Calabar, Nsukka

After wowing the cities of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, Ogbomosho in Oyo State, Nnewi in Anambra State and Orlu in Imo in the last two weekends, Star Trek Nigeria’s biggest and brightest ten city music concert tour moves to Calabar, the Cannan City in Cross River State on Friday and Nsukka in Anambra State on Saturday.

On hand to thrill music lovers would be Okoye twins- Peter and Paul, popular known as P-Square, Nigeria’s king of rap music and owner of September 20th clothing line, the Umunna crooner 2shots and Calabar based rave of the moment, Father Kane who is giving Timaya a good run for his money.

This weekend promises to be a very entertaining and exciting one for residents of the ancient city as they would also have an opportunity of seeing live performance of The Pulse, winning band in this year’s edition of Star Quest, popular music talent hunt sponsored by Star lager.

This band’s outing is expected to be of particular interest to the city dwellers because two of the six band members- Asuquo Okon and Charles Nkamiang were not only picked from Calabar but have their roots traced to Calabar.

The Trek began in Ijebu Ode and Ogbomosho penultimate weekend was last weekend in Nnewi and Orlu. The stars who have performed so far includes; D’Banj, 9ice, Timaya, Ruggedman, Faze, 2shots, Obesere, Tony One Week,Diamonds,2008 winners of Star Quest and Sound Sultan. The Pulse’ performances on the Trek so far has been superlative.
