Joan Eluemelu-Okorodudu is never one to shy away from achieving her dreams. As a young lady, just fresh from the University of Boston,USA,she contested and was first runner-up Miss Nigeria in 1981.Today,Mama J as she is fonly called has not allowed the dream of helping young models elude her. She sits atop a flourishing model agency,ISIS Models management South Africa, creating a platform for many who wants to establish themselves in the modelling world. Most Nigerian models including Bunmi Ademokoya and Brian Okwara, the winner of the Model of the world contest and Mr.Nigeria respectively are some of the people that has benefitted from the agency. They have been exposed to world leading fashion shows such as New York fashion week,Jo'burg Fashion Week etc and through TV commercials leading brands. Yesterday(30 April 2008),was the screening of Joan's Nigeria Next Supermodel.Bevy of ladies numbering well over one hundred stormed the Air Force Officers' Mess in Victoria Island,Lagos to be a part of it.The panel of judges was formed by model grooming guru,Bayo Adegbe popularly known as Modella,Frank Osodi of House of Bruno Crazioni,Bayo Haastrup of Ijade Egbin and others. The atmosphere was such that it was a keenly contested platform and almost all those who made it would think it was the actual event. This is not to say that those with pot bellies and tuber legs like Enugu yams did not appear at the screening. In all about 25 girls were picked for the main event, scheduled to take place in Lagos soon.Iwa,Rukkies,Power Horse,Lagos Lotto,Amingos and others supported the Next Supermodel contest.Mrs.Okorodudu noted that that there are so many opportunities out there for aspiring models and Nigeria must tap into it now. She,however, called on corporate organisations to be partners in progress.
